1. Cape Peninsula Highlands
Travel via the spectacular Atlantic seaboard to Hout Bay fishing harbour. On via the most beautiful marine drive in the world, Chapman's Peak Drive, to the Cape of Good Hope National Park. See both Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. Exit the park and travel along the False Bay coast to the African Penguin colony at the Boulders. On via the ex-British naval base at Simon's Town, and through the Constantia Valley back to the city.
2. City And Museums
A tour of the city centre of the "Mother City" gives you a complete overview of the incredible history of South Africa. Includes a walking tour of the historic centre (the Castle of Good Hope, City Hall, Grand Parade); the District Six Museum - which allows a fascinating glimpse into the workings of the Apartheid system; the Cultural History Museum; the Company Gardens; a walk through the Bo-Kaap area - for a taste of "Cape Malay" culture; and the vibrant Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.
3. Wine And Brandy
The Western Cape province of South Africa is the home of South African wine and brandy - and it's right on the doorstep of Cape Town! Visit a selection of fine estates in the surrounds of the towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek - some housed in historic Cape Dutch homesteads, some in state-of-the-art cellar complexes, all in magnificent settings with spectacular views! Estates are chosen with your specific wine interests in mind. A tour of the Van Ryn Brandy Cellar near Stellenbosch can also included.
4. Flowers, Seals And Birds
A morning boat trip out to Duiker Island, off Hout Bay, to see the colony of Cape Fur Seals. Then we visit “The World of Birds” – a sanctuary for orphaned or wounded birds – some 3 000 of them, in walk-through aviaries. On to the magnificent Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, on the back-slopes of Table Mountain. Enjoy a guided walk through this indigenous botanical wonderland – regarded as one of the finest in the world.
5. West Cost And Seafood/p>
A slow drive up the West Coast, with a stop for that postcard-view over Table Bay and Table Mountain at Blouwbergstrand. On to the Langebaan Lagoon for a mid-morning swim (seasonal!!)and walk on the beach. Then - a culinary experience that you’ll never forget! At “Die Strandloper” - an al fresco restaurant on the beach. Freshly-caught linefish and lobsters are barbecued before your eyes; bread is baked in an outdoor oven! When you need a break, take a quick walk along the beach, or have a swim! Return to Cape Town late-afternoon – sated and satisfied!
6. Fynbos, Mountains, Whales And Wine
We travel via Somerset West, the Strand, Gordon’s Bay and the False Bay coast to the Harold Porter Botanical Garden near Betty’s Bay – one of the finest displays of fynbos vegetation in the Western Cape. On via Kleinmond to the coastal resort of Hermanus. A stroll along the cliffs overlooking Walker Bay – in season (May to November) looking out for the giant Southern Right Whales. After lunch, we visit one of the fine wine estates in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley near Hermanus, then return to Cape Town via the orchards of Elgin and Grabouw and Sir Lowry’s Mountain Pass.
