Travel Quotes

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.”

Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken.

“Ex Africa semper aliquid novi.” (Always something new out of Africa)
Pliny the Elder. Historia Naturalis.

“I see a turning wheel
On a dusty track,
Caught in the void and empty space
In between there and back,
And the paradise of going somewhere
That's still so far away.
Happy, boy you bet I am,
Holding on to this mile for just as long as I can -
Chris Rea, Heaven.

“Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world -
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows. For my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.”
Alfred Lord Tennyson, Ulysses.

Small group and private tours of South Africa

Tour South and southern Africa with Africa Outing!

We are a Cape Town-based tour operator which specialises in private, small group and tailor-made tours throughout southern Africa - South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Swaziland.

We're a two-person tour operator (Jeremy and Steve). We were both born in South Africa (well, Steve in Namibia – at that stage, effectively part of South Africa – and moved to Cape Town in his “youth”). Both graduated at the University of Cape Town, and became teachers – each of us notching up our longest service at The South African College High School (the oldest school in the country!) in Cape Town. Jeremy taught English and History; Steve Geography.

Teaching was great – but after 12 years, we both grew restless. In school holidays over the years, we had set off in the 4 X 4 and “discovered” most of south and southern Africa (as “whities” at that time, an often mind-blowing experience!). And so we began to think – what about doing this as a living?

The rest is history, as they say – we launched ourselves into the tourism market in 1997, and haven’t looked back! We both qualified as National Guides in South Africa, and have taken many South Africa tours into our neighbouring countries – Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe (not for a while, alas, for obvious reasons), Mocambique, Swaziland and Lesotho.

We have chosen to remain small – and to conduct all (where possible) tours ourselves. And so - we’d love to take YOU out in Africa! We’d love to help you plan your tour or safari – anywhere in South or southern Africa! Not only can we put together superb itineraries for small groups, individual private tours and group private tours. We also offer car rental and airport transfers, and can make all your regional flight and accommodation reservations as well.

From people travelling South Africa on their own to couples and small groups (we prefer working with groups of not more than 8 people at a time) we offer tailor-made, personalised tours. (If necessary, we do work with larger groups - but be aware that these mean less of a personalised experience.)

You let us know your what you want from your tour of South Africa , and we design the tour accordingly. From stunningly luxurious lodges and hotels to intimate, personal guesthouses and Bed & Breakfasts. From Cape Town and the genteel vineyards of the Western Cape region to the Namib and Kalahari Deserts. From the tropical beaches of KwaZulu Natal and Mozambique to the raw African bush of Botswana and the Kruger National Park.

And, don’t forget, South Africa is REAL value for money, with a great exchange rate. We look forward to hearing from you!
